June 20th and 21st, 2026
Join us for a two-day mountain flying program in Truckee, CA hosted by the Cirrus Pilots and Owners Association in partnership with Mountain Lion, a premier Cirrus Training Center based in Truckee. You’ll learn what makes mountain flying unique, how to operate safely in this environment, what hazards to watch for, and how to adapt your techniques to handle the specific challenges of high-altitude terrain.
The seminar begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, 6/20, with a ground session led by Chris Barbera, Chief Pilot and Director of Operations at Mountain Lion. After the morning class, we’ll have lunch at Red Truck and then launch for flights to nearby mountain airports with CPPP and Mountain Lion instructors.
On Sunday, the day starts with a ground course taught by Thomas Daniel, a Platinum CSIP based in the San Francisco Bay Area with extensive Sierra flying experience. After lunch, we’ll continue with additional training flights.
Please plan to arrive in Truckee on Friday afternoon, 6/19, so you’re ready for the Saturday morning start. The event wraps up on Sunday afternoon after the final flights.
