About Rodney

Past life as a Civil Earthworks Contractor, now semi-retired, but dabbling in a bit of land developing plus being a partner on a limestone mine.

I commenced flying training in a C150 in 1967, gave it away after 18 hours and got married instead.  I was introduced to gliding in 1973 and have been gliding ever since.  I currently have a share in a DG500 22 metre wingspan motor glider.  In 1978 I completed my fixed wing licence in a C172 float plane.  I then built flight hours towing gliders.  Over the years I have towed with an Auster, Belanca Citabria, Belanca Scout, Piper Pawnee and currently Cessna 150.  The C150 is fitted with a Lycoming 180 hp 0360, a nippy little performer.

In 1985 I had my first flight in a helicopter, and was wrapped.  By end of that year I completed my helicopter licence was the proud owner of a new R22.  Within a couple of years this expanded to a Bell 206 Jetranger, then a Hughes 500C, 500D and finally to a McDonnell Douglas 520N Notar.

I became the proud owner of a new Cessna 182S in 1999, and thought this was the best plane ever.  However late in 2005 I took a demo flight in a Cirrus SR22.  Within three days I had placed an order for a SR22GTS and took delivery of it early November 2005.  I have since enjoyed many happy hours touring our great country.
