Thursday June 17-20, 2010
Dayton, Ohio

In June 2010, at the peak of the summer season, hundreds of Cirrus aircraft from all over the country will again migrate to the biggest event of the year for Cirrus pilots.

There will be an extensive and varied roster of activities for the pilots and their families, insuring that a great time will be had by all.

New Location, Tours & Attractions

This year, for the first time, we are Migrating to Dayton, Ohio. The many aviation attractions are one of the major reasons for selecting Dayton.

The Migration 8 program will take advantage of the many aviation attractions that include the United States Museum of the Air Force. Over 300 Air Planes and 6000 exhibits make up one of the worlds greatest aviation museum.

You will also be treated to a Aviation Historical Tour, that will include a visit to Huffman Prairie, the Wright/Dunbar Interpretive Center and Hawthorne Hill. Huffman Prairie is the most hallowed ground in aviation. This is where the Wright Brothers converted the barely controllable proof of concept original Wright Flyer (which flew just over 800 feet at Kitty Hawk) into a maneuverable, practical airplane. The Wright/Dunbar Interpretive center is in the neighborhood where the Wright Brothers lived and worked as well as where the famous bicycle shop was located. You will learn more about the invention of flight here. You will also visit the Wright Brothers mansion, the fruits of their success, called Hawthorne Hill. This fascinating historic residence is normally not open to the public, but COPA will get a guided tour and learn about the lives of the two brothers from Dayton.

There will be recommend tours for those that come early and/or stay over Sunday. The Air Force Museum deserves more than the half day that we include in the core program and to see all the exhibits can take at least two whole days. In addition, other aviation attractions in the area will be suggested so that those that have the extra time can productively take full advantage of their Dayton visit. This information will be available well before Migration 8 so you can make your plans. The attractive Migration hotel rates will be available for early arrivals and those that stay over.

Speakers & Seminars

COPA Migration seminars are considered among the best in the aviation industry and this year will be no exception! The seminar program this year will focus on subjects that concern COPA pilots, such as safety, operation, maintenance and the future of General Aviation. Wright Patterson Air Force has agreed to provide seminars on advanced aviation topics that will be of interest and benefit to COPA members. The Migration Committee is currently working on the speaker program, and we are excited about the quality of speakers for both the social events and seminars that have been invited to this Migration.

The program will provide you with a unique opportunity to learn the fascinating story behind the invention of Flight by the Wright Brothers. There will be expert speakers on this subject during the Social events starting with the opening event that will be conducted at Carillon Park, where one of the original Wright flyers is exhibited. We will hear from Tom Crouch, Senior Curator from the Smithsonian who is the expert on the subject. Attendees will hear from other experts and have a chance to visit the sites where powered flight was both invented and perfected.

In addition to our usual roster of speakers and seminars (to be announced), this year we are planning to add a number of separately priced seminars, to be conducted in advance of Migration 8 on Wednesday and Thursday. The details for seminars will be announced in the near future but currently, Matt McDaniels (WAAS/Advanced IFR), Scott Dennstaedt (Aviation Weather) and  Tornado Alley Advanced Pilot Seminar are tentatively scheduled, depending upon sufficient interest to meet minimum seminar size.  A number of other activities are being considered some no additional charge and some with additional fee. The idea is maximizing the return on your travel time and expense by tacking on these activities to your Migration attendance.

We plan to video record seminar programs to permit attendees to view sessions they were not able to attend.  The details regarding availability of these sessions to attendees and non-attendees have not yet been finalized.

Trade Show & Exhibition

Last year over 40 exhibitors attended and exhibited in our exhibition hall.  This is a great opportunity to learn about new products and discuss your aircraft systems directly with representatives of the manufacturers.

The Dayton Convention Center provides excellent facilities for our seminars as well as exhibitors and sponsors. We expect a full complement of exhibitors, with the events planned to give you more time to interact with our exhibitors.

The exhibit area will open early and breakfast will be served. You will be able to spend a little extra time exploring the exhibits and enjoy breakfast that is included in your migration package fee.
